We would love to have you serve as a part of our Park Lakes Elementary After-School Garden Program that will invest into the next generation and also address the nutrition and wellness needs of our local community.
Whether you are an avid gardener or you have never gotten your hands dirty and grown your own plants or produce, we want to equip you during this 6 week course. Over these 6 weeks, you will learn the basics of gardening and help get the current garden beds in good planting shape for Spring planting with the 1st graders of Park Lakes Elementary.
The 6 week course will include topics such as how to properly build, maintain and harvest a garden as well as prepare you for the mentorship aspect of the program. You’ll also get an opportunity to spend time with our church family and Park Lake Elementary teachers and parents while learning fun tips and tricks of gardening in order to harvest and eat the fresh produce you will grow. In the Spring the official Mentorship program will be an opportunity for activity-based mentoring that will utilize the Learn, Grow, Eat and Go curriculum that is provided by Texas A&M Better Living for Texans.
What to Wear: Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind having some garden fun in!
*You will need to complete an Humble ISD volunteer application in order to serve in this program
