Kids Camp 2023 Parent Devotional Day 3

God designed us to worship.  We talked all about this last night to the kids at camp, and we spent quite a bit of time intentionally worshipping the Lord.  Before we dive into our devotional today, we thought it would be good for you to spend a little time worshipping as well.  We probably don’t spend enough time worshipping in our busy days, so click the following link and take the next several minutes worshipping with our Woodlands Worship team as they lead out in the song, “Such a Love.”

We want you to ask yourself a very important question.  Who/what do you worship?  Really?  Sometimes it can be easy to say that we worship God, or maybe we hope in our hearts that we would say that we worship the Lord; however, how can we really measure that?  There may or may not be a truly accurate way to measure who/what we worship, but we do think there are some questions that can help determine the person/thing of our worship.  What consumes our thoughts? What drives our actions and behavior?  What do we spend our resources (time, talent, & treasure) on? What shapes our values and priorities?  These are just a few questions that may be able to help define where our worship lies.

Matthew 6:21 states, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

It’s true that the Lord is worthy of our worship and praise, but did you know that He actually loves it when we praise Him?  It’s hard though, isn’t it?  There are so many things that keep us from worshipping the Lord with a pure heart and a clear conscience.  One of those things that keeps us from truly worshipping the Lord is sin in our lives that we have never confessed and repented of.  Sin separates us from God.  If there is something in your life that you have thought, said, or done that doesn’t match up with what is right according to God’s Word, then you need to spend a few minutes telling the Lord about those things.  Once you have confessed those things, then you need to repent, or turn the complete opposite direction, and leave those things in the past.

Another thing that keeps us from worshipping the Lord with all of our heart, is the fact that we can get distracted way too easily.  Some of us have learned that if the devil can’t lead us into temptation, he may just make us busy.  We all have so many things happening in our lives.  It can sometimes feel overwhelming when we try to figure out our lives and our schedules.  It’s way too easy these days as we desire to enter into a place of personal worship of the Lord, that our minds start thinking about a million different things.  Our minds are the battlefield, and we have to make sure we are keeping our hearts and minds focused on Him, not on earlthy things.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Colossians 3:2)

You were created to worship.   If worship is something that is hard for you, make sure that there is nothing blocking that connection with the Lord- whether that be unconfessed sin or just being distracted.  Worship Him, parent, with a full and undistracted heart and mind.
