Parent Frequently Asked Questions

We love seeing new faces in The Children’s Ministry. Every first-time guest is given a special sticker at check-in to let us know they’ve never been here before. Our staff team, volunteers, and student leaders recognize these stickers and will go above and beyond in helping your child feel right at home from the start. From start to finish, we want the process to be easy for you, and for your child to feel welcome and have fun.

We are parents, too, and we know that nothing is as important as the safety and security of every child. God has entrusted us with caring for your children and we are humbled by this privilege. Here are some of the things we do to keep your kids safe and secure:

  • All children must be registered the first time they visit one of our campuses or areas. Even if you’re only coming one time, we still want to be sure we have the right information for them and for you.
  • Every child and parent will receive a security tag with a randomly generated security code. If you’ve already registered, this is computer generated upon check-in. These tags must be matched when you come to pick up your child. If you lose a tag or they don’t match, please have your driver’s license handy and be patient as it may take a few extra minutes to sort things out.
  • During service, all area doors are locked and only those with a security tag or accompanied by a team member are allowed to enter.
  • Every staff member and volunteer in The Children’s Ministry has been screened by an outside investigation agency and passed a criminal background check.

You may check in your child at any available station. After swiping your driver’s license and selecting your child’s name, you and your child will be given matching identification tags that are exclusive to your family and your visit. Your child will need to wear the nametag portion while you keep the matching tag. After the service, you will return to your child’s room and show your tag in order for your child to be released back to you.

Our curriculum is adapted in each venue to best fit the age group being taught. Therefore, we encourage children to attend the service in their appropriate age venue. However, we want all children to enjoy their experience in The Children’s Ministry. If a child is uncomfortable attending alone and wishes to attend the service with their friend, find one of our staff team members and we will see what we can do to make it a great experience for them.

Helping your family grow spiritually is an important part of what we do in The Children’s Ministry. Each week we hand out “Big Picture Cards.” These are designed to be like trading cards that children can collect and use to remember what they’re learning. On the backside of the cards, you’ll find things like the Main Point, Bible story, and Christ Connection from the weekend lessons we’ve taught. In addition, every child receives an activity sheet that has “Family Discussion Starters” to help facilitate family dialogue throughout the week. We are also more than happy to meet with you and your family for anything you may need or any questions you may have.

Of course! We’d love to have you join our team. In fact, many parents are involved with their children in The Children’s Ministry! For more information on volunteering in your child’s class, just ask us on the weekend or contact us at tcm@wc.org

Our services are packed full of fun games, exciting worship, and clear, relevant teaching from the Bible. We are all about relationships. We know the most important relationship for anyone is with Jesus, so we strive to point people to him in all that we do. Service starts with leaders and children playing games and building friendships in a small group setting. After this, we join other small groups for singing, dancing, large group games, and learning the Bible story for the week. We wrap up the lesson in small groups by reviewing the lesson, playing games, and exploring practical ways to apply what we’ve learned during the week.
